Myanmar (Burma) Birds Watching / Birding Tour Itinerary : IV

Deciduous Forest near Pyay
6 Days Birding tour to South Myanmar

For see some Myanmar endemic bird species and other speciality Myanmar (Asian) birds

Day 1:            Yangon (Myanmar, formerly Burma) arrival day
Arrive at Yangon (formerly Rangoon) international airport. Transfer and check in the hotel for one night stay. If we have time we will do Yangon  City birding where Little Grebe, Bronze-winged and Pheasant-tailed Jacanas, Lesser Whistling Duck, Common Moorhen, Oriental Darter, Little cormorant, Coppersmith Barbet, Mynas, Bee-eaters, Bulbuls, Tailorbird, Prinia and others will be seen. Overnight will be at hotel in Yangon.

Day 2:             Hlawga Wildlife Park – Moeyongyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary
In the morning, we will drive to Hlawga Wildlife Park to do birding. Here we will be able to see the rare Pale-capped Pigeon, Racket-tailed Treepie, Red Junglefowl, Green, Blue-tailed and Chestnut-headed Bee-eaters, Green-billed Malkoha, Lesser Racket-tailed and Greater Racket-tailed Drongos, White-rumped Shama, Black-headed, Black-crested, Red-vented, Red-whiskered, Stripe-throated with red eyes which is only found in south Myanmar and near-endemic Streak-eared Bulbuls, White-crested and Lesser Necklaced Laughingthrushes, Puff-throated and Chestnut-capped Babblers, Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker, Ruby-cheeked, Olive-backed and Purple Sunbirds, some water bird species such as Oriental Darter, Spot-billed and Lesser Whistling Ducks, Cotton Pygmy Goose, Common Moorhen, White-breasted Waterhen, Red-wattled Lapwing, Little Ringed Plover and others. We can also see wintering bird species such as Osprey, Black-naped Oriole, Spotted Redshank, Painted Stork, Asian Openbill, Black-naped Oriole, Black-winged Cuckooshrike, Oriental Reed, Greenish and Yellow-browed Warblers and Forest Wagtail. Late afternoon, we will drive to Moeyungyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary (two hours drive). In the evening we will be birding along the shore of Moeyungyi to see Plaintive Cuckoo, Bluethroat, Striated Grassbird, Thick-billed and Oriental Reed Warblers, Asian Golden Weaver, shorebirds and others. Overnight will be at resort in the sanctuary.

Day 3:             Moeyungyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary – Pyay
Morning boat rides on Moeyongyi Lake to see hundreds of Purple Swanphen, Pheasant-tailed and Bronz-winged Jacanas, Northern Pintail, Lesser Whistling Duck, Oriental Pratincole, Grey Heron, Asian Openbill, Painted Stork, Glossy Ibis, Greater Spotted Eagle, Harriers, Black Kite, Black-browed Reed Warblers and other birds. After lunch we will drive back to Pyay (6 hours drive) for a two night stay. Birding stops en-route. Overnight will be at hotel in Pyay.

Day 4:             Pyay
In the early morning, we will be birding the whole day in the dry deciduous forest near Pyay. Here we can see three out of five endemics of Myanmar bird species, which are rare Hooded Treepie, White-throated Babbler and Burmese Bushlark together with Chinese Francolin, Fulvous-breasted, Streak-throated and Grey-headed Woodpeckers, Greater Yellownape, Common, Himalayan and Greater Flamebacks, Red-billed Blue Magpie, Rufous Treepie, White-eyed Buzzard, Burmese Shrike, Asian Paradise Flycatcher and many more speciality birds. Overnight will be at hotel in Pyay.

Day 5:             Pyay – Yangon
Morning we will drive back to Yangon. Birding stops en-route. Overnight will be at hotel in Yangon.

Day 6:             Departure
City tour or visit to famous Shwedagon Pagoda, the city's primary Landmark, with its magnificent golden stupa. Transfer to Yangon International Airport for the departure flight at your flight time.

Notes

This trip is available year round.

Fitness: The tour does not require a high level of fitness but particularly should be in good general health. Should you have any physical limitations please contact us.
Accommodation: Twin sharing room.
Climate: Usually hot.
Equipment: Recommended gear to bring is sun hat, sun cream, flash light and raincoat.
Group Size: Minimum 2- Maximum 10
