Alaungdaw Kathapa National Park

9 Days Bird Watching Tour to Wonder Land of Woodpecker in Central Myanmar (Burma)
For see woodpeckers of Myanmar and some speciality Myanmar (South East Asian) bird species

Day 1:            Yangon (Myanmar, formerly Burma) arrival day
Arrive at Yangon (formerly Rangoon) international airport. Transfer and check in the hotel for one night stay. If we have time we will do Yangon  City bird watching tour where Little Grebe, Bronze-winged and Pheasant-tailed Jacanas, Lesser Whistling Duck, Common Moorhen, Oriental Darter, Little cormorant, Coppersmith Barbet, Mynas, Bee-eaters, Bulbuls, Tailorbird, Prinia and other bird species will be seen. Overnight will be at hotel in Yangon.

Day 2:             Yangon – Mandalay – Alaungdaw Kathapa National Park
In the morning fly to Mandalay. Then proceed to Alaungdaw National Park via Monywa by car. We will be bird watching on the way. Overnight will be at forest guest house in Alaungdaw Kathapa.

Day 3 to 6:      Alaungdaw Kathapa National Park
We will do bird watching three full days at Alaungdaw Kathapa National Park. Here we can able to see 18 species of Woodpecker such as Eurasian Wryneck, Speckled Piculet, White-browed Piculet, Lesser Yellownape, Greater Yellownape, Common Flameback, Himalayan Flameback, Greater Flameback, White-bellied Woodpecker, Great Slaty Woodpecker, Grey-capped Pygmy Woodpecker, Yellow-crowned Woodpecker, Streak-throated Woodpecker, Streak-breasted Woodpecker, Grey-headed Woodpecker, Bay Woodpecker, Pale-headed Woodpecker and Rufous Woodpecker. Other speciality bird species are three species of Myanma endemic bird such as Hooded Treepie, White-throated Babbler and Burmese Bushlark together with Kalij Pheasant, Blue-eared Barbet, Great Hornbill, Oriental Pied Hornbill, Red-headed Trogon, Alexandrine Parakeet, Blossom-headed Parakeet, Red-breasted Parakeet, Grey-headed Parakeet, Rose-ringed Parakeet, Blue-bearded Bee-eater, Chestnut-headed Bee-eater, Asian Barred Owlet, White-eyed Buzzard, Myanmar near-endemic White-rumped Falcon, Collared Falconet, Red-billed Blue Magpie, Large Woodshrike, Common Woodshrike, White-browed Fantail, Black-backed Forktail, Hill Myna, Chestnut-bellied Nuthatch, Velvet-fronted Nuthatch, Olive Bulbul, Greater Neckalced Laughingthrushe, Lesser Neckalced Laughingthrushe, White-bellied Yuhina and many bird species.

Day 7:             Alaungdaw Kathapa National Park – Mandalay  
We will drive back to Mandalay. Birding stops en-route. Overnight will be at hotel in Mandalay.

Day 8:             Mandalay – Yangon
In the morning we will do bird watching around Mandalay or if interest the archeological site will be visit to famous sites. Late afternoon we will drive to Mandalay air port for fly back to Yangon. On the way to the Mandalay air port we will do bird watching to see Oriental Darter, Little Cormorant, Great Cormorant, Greylag Goose, Comb Duck, Spot-billed Duck, Ferruginous Duck, Tufted Duck, Eurasian Wigeon, Pheasant-tailed Jacana, Black-winged Stilt, Grey Heron, Purple Heron, Glossy Ibis and other birds. Overnight will be at hotel in Yangon.

Day 9:             Departure
City tour or visit to famous Shwedagon Pagoda, the city's primary Landmark, with its magnificent golden stupa. Transfer to Yangon International Airport for the departure flight at your flight time.

Notes

The best time to go is during December to April.

Fitness: The tour does not require a high level of fitness but particularly should be in good general health.
Accommodation: Twin sharing room. The guest house at Alaungdaw Kathapa is basic.
Climate: The conditions are usually hot.
Equipment: Recommended gear to bring is sun hat, sun cream, flash light and raincoat.
Group Size:        Minimum 2- Maximum 10
